Vintage Blue SLAG Glass “Hen on Nest” Candy Dish

Lemon Creme fragrance. All natural soy wax.

This highly collectible blue and white marbled hen, known as SLAG Glass is so sweet and just waiting to show off in your Spring / Easter decor!¬†These “Hen on Nest” dishes were popular in the US from the late 1800’s thru the mid-century and even gained a resurgence of popularity in the 1970’s when the green and amber colors were introduced! The term “Hen on Nest” was coined by the Westmoreland Glass Company in the 1930’s, but these dishes are also referred to as an “animal dish”, “trinket box”, ¬†“hen in a basket”, and more.

Slag Glass is sometimes referred to as “marble glass”. Its namesake is derived from the original method by which it was created…. in the late 1800’s Slag Glass was made using “silicate slag” which is an ingredient that forms as molten iron ore cools. This ingredient was added and mixed with the glass in the molten state to create this marbled effect (popular in many glass lampshades you might remember!) Other methods were later developed for creating this beautiful glassware, but the Slag name stuck!

This 6″ vintage glass “hen on nest” candy dish is perfect for decor, nuts at a party, condiments, or as a serving dish on your dinner table! I am imagining colorful EASTER candy pouring out of sweet thing! [click on product to see more photos]

To reuse your vintage candle container: after the candle has burned down, scoop out any remaining wax with a spoon and discard. Then simply wash out the vessel carefully with warm, soapy water and since soy wax is soft and water soluble, it’s that easy. Now you’re ready to enjoy your vintage treasure for years to come!
